Your Questions Answered

Find answers to the most common questions about staying at Villa Magnolia de Avellanas.

What amenities are included in the villa?

Our villa comes fully equipped with modern amenities including a shared saltwater pool, high-speed WiFi, air conditioning, washer and dryer, a fully stocked gourmet kitchen, and more.

How do I book my stay?

You can book your stay directly through our website by clicking the “book your stay” button at the bottom of this page, selecting your desired dates and completing the reservation form. A confirmation email will be sent to you with information once we receive your request.

Is the water safe to drink?

Yes, the country’s water treatment systems are considered some of the best in Latin America due to strict regulations and robust processes. Our villa also includes a water softener, whole-house filter, and point of use filters on the refrigerator and kitchen faucet.

Is transportation available from the airport?

Airport shuttles can be booked separately. We recommend Native’s Way for shuttle services, though there are many companies that offer this service. The cost is approximately $200 each way for a private shuttle for up to 4 people. Prices vary by company.

Should I rent a car?

There are many activities in Playa Avellanas if you are looking for a quiet getaway. However, if you are planning many activities, would like to go shopping, or enjoy an exciting nightlife, we recommend renting a car.

Is the villa family-friendly?

Absolutely! Our villa is designed to accommodate families with children of all ages. Our second bedroom has a queen sized bed with a double trundle and a queen size sofa bed in the living room for families with children.

What is the charge per night?

The cost per night varies depending on the season. However, because we do not use a booking site and rent by referral only, our prices tend to be lower than other rentals in the area. Additionally, the price we quote includes all taxes and cleaning fees. You will not be surprised by additional charges when you confirm your booking. Please use the booking page to inquire for your dates. We will send you a quote, at which time, you can choose whether to confirm booking or look elsewhere.

What is your cancelation policy?

We give a full refund up until 7 days before your check-in date. If you must cancel within 7 days, please contact us and we will do our best to accommodate you.

What do I need to know about driving in Costa Rica?

PATIENCE IS KEY. Driving in Costa Rica is not difficult. Most roads are two-lane, and you may have to slow or stop for animals, people, or buses so it’s important to stay alert at all times. Additionally, Costa Rica is serious about speed bumps (reductors). Watch for the signs. You will often encounter them when driving through towns and they usually occur in pairs with one at the entrance to town, and one as you leave. We recommend downloading the Waze app as it works better in Costa Rica than Google Maps. Additionally, we don’t advise driving at night unless absolutely necessary. The roads are winding and are seldom lit, making it difficult if you don’t know the area. Additionally, make sure that the driver has their passport with them when driving as it is required by Costa Rica law. A photocopy of your passport is not sufficient.

Are pets allowed at the villa?

We welcome pets at Villa Magnolia de Avellanas. Please inform us in advance if you plan to bring your furry friend, as additional cleaning fees may apply.

What is there to do in Playa Avellanas?

Guests can enjoy a variety of activities including swimming in the pool, yoga sessions, surfing, horseback riding, ziplining, or spending time on the beach. The JW Marriot is a few miles away. Day passes are available. Amenities include golf, hiking trails, biking, and a spa. Tamarindo is about 10 miles away and has an exciting array of stores, restaurants, bars, and beaches.

Is there a minimum stay requirement?

Yes, we have a minimum stay requirement of 3 nights. During peak seasons, the minimum stay may be extended to 5 nights. However, we are able to accommodate shorter stays at times. Please contact us if you need to book a shorter stay.

What is the closest airport?

Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport in Liberia (LIR) is the closest airport. Travel time from the airport to the villa is approximately 90 minutes.

Is there a grocery store nearby?

There are three mini-markets in Playa Avellanas. Villareal has several grocery stores. We recommend the SuperCompro, which is approximately 7 miles from the villa.

Is Costa Rica safe for Americans?

Absolutely. Most crime in our area is petty crime. As with any city, we recommend that you don’t carry a lot of cash with you, and don’t leave valuables in your car. Use the same precautions you would in any beach town.
